Athletic Screening

Perform Better. Stay Injury-Free. Reach Your Potential

At APC Physiotherapy Clinic, our Athletic Screening service has one goal. We want to help you become a stronger, more efficient, and more resilient athlete.
Delivered by our experienced team of Physiotherapists and Athletic Therapists, APC’s screening service goes beyond basic testing; it gives you the tools to improve your performance.

What Is Athletic Screening?

Athletic Screening is a comprehensive assessment performed by APC Physio staff for professional and amateur athletes. The goal of Athletic Screening is to measure key elements of your physical condition to determine your:

You should undertake regular screenings in order to better understand your body’s strengths and weaknesses so you can train smarter, recover faster and perform at your best. The assessment involves the following areas.

Strength & Power

Here we test muscle strength, stability, and power across key muscle groups. Age, injury and, in some cases, illness, can take a toll on muscle strength and it is an important area to monitor for both athletes and non-athletes. During your assessment, your APC physio will check key muscle groups for power. One of the key elements of our screening is testing your strength through specific movements for which we have clear targets for you to work towards. The aim of these tests is to find the weak link in your kinetic chain. One trend we find among athletic clients is they may be strong in general or compound movements but may be surprisingly weak in specific movements such as hip abduction. Identifying these local areas of weakness can be central to breaking the cycle of injury and improving your performance.

Flexibility & Mobility

Good flexibility and mobility aren't just about being able to touch your toes; they directly affect how efficiently you move, how well you absorb impact, and how much force you can generate. If something is restricted, your body will find a way around it, and that compensation is usually where problems start.

During the screening, your APC physio will measure joint range of motion and soft tissue flexibility across the areas most relevant to your sport. Catching restrictions early means we can target them before they start becoming a problem.

Poor range of motion may be due to soft tissue length or joint related restrictions. Our testing helps to determine what is driving these limitations and determine how best to address them.

Why This Matters to You

Every athlete has limiting factors, but most athletes don’t know what they are. This gives you an opportunity to get ahead of the competition by identifying and addressing your own limitations.

Whether you are a runner, GAA player or gymnast, you will find Athletic Screening useful if you are:

Our screening service will identify exactly what’s holding you back and show you how to fix it.

The Goal of Athletic Screening

At APC Physio, we think of Athletic Screening as a performance roadmap, not just an assessment.

We will pinpoint the weaknesses and imbalances affecting your performance to help you improve your movement efficiency, strength, and control – all essential for athletic performance.

Ultimately, our goal is the same as yours: to help you train better, perform better, and stay playing longer.
